Community Vitality Week 2012

A Woman's Health Experience 2012
Co-hosted by the General Federation of Women's Clubs - Charlotte
FREE to the public!

1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 26
At AL!VE, 800 W. Lawrence Ave., Charlotte

The event focuses on five dimensions of health and well-being: move, eat, think, breathe and support. This free event marks the beginning of Community Vitality Week.

Scheduled activities include:

  • More than 20 different interactive learning opportunities
  • Physician-guided conversations
  • Share ideas and tips on managing day-to-day life
  • Demonstrations: healthy cooking, group exercise, integrated medicine (acupuncture, massages)
  • Exercise samplers: tai chi, circuit and weight training, yoga and Zumba
  • Balance and bone density testing, and body composition testing

Childcare is available for children who are potty trained (pre-registration is required).

1 p.m. to 1:45 p.m.: Fit Cancer Survivors (Bridge)
5:40 p.m. to 6:10 p.m.: Zumba (Soar)
6:30 p.m.: Cardiovascular Health for You by Jake Campbell

Wednesday, Feb. 29
1 p.m. to 1:45 p.m.: Strong Heart Exercise (Bridge)
2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.: Women's Tea (Journey)
6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.: Chicken Dinner Series #2 (Relish) There is a $15 fee for this class.

Thursday, March 1
9:15 a.m. to 10 a.m.: Mat Pilates (Discover)
10:15 a.m. to 11 a.m.: Gentle Joings (Bridge)
1 p.m. to 1:45 p.m.: Weigh Loss Circuit (Bridge)
6 p.m. to 7 p.m.: Quick and Healthy Lunches (Relish)

Friday, March 2
11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.: Tai Chi (Discover)

Sample water aerobics classes for FREE! Stop by Wednesday, Feb. 29, from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Classes start every half-hour, with the last class ending at 10:30 a.m.

Experience Art

This community group is meeting Thursday, March 1, to talk about ways to inspire more art in public places, the growth of local arts-related businesses and the role of arts in community vitality.

The annual HGB HealthFest wraps up Community Vitality Week with a FREE, fun-filled, informative and family-friendly event that provides a wealth of health information, screenings and resources to the community.

Family Health and Fitness Day
Third Saturday in September
HGB Wellness Center

Celebrate national Family Health and Fitness Day at the HGB Wellness Center with free, fun-filled activities all day for the entire family! The Wellness Center opens at 7 a.m., and activities begin at 7:30 a.m. and continue until 3 p.m. Child care is available for children ages 3 and older.
