HealthFest 2014

At AL!VE, 800 W. Lawrence Ave., Charlotte

HGB HealthFest is a free annual community event offered this year in partnership with the Capital Area Health Alliance based on the theme of "Choosing Health." It will feature special exhibits and demonstrations from a variety of health-related organizations and specialists.

HealthFest iis a fun-filled, informative and family-friendly event that provides a wealth of health information, screenings and resources to the community. This year's event will focus on activities for individuals and families that:

  • Encourage physical activity
  • Promote healthy eating habits
  • Prevent substance abuse and tobacco use
  • Promote mental health

There will be more than 50 exhibits and activities, including HGB physicians and dietitans on-hand for conversations and screeings. Participants will be able to:

  • Check blood pressure and BMI
  • Learn about bone density
  • Learn about new services for women, including breast health
  • Learn about menopause or osteoporosis
  • Assess stress management and learn about resources to help
  • Receive information about annual health physicals
  • Check cholesterol and blood sugar levels
  • Gain awareness about cancer and its treatments
  • Get information about smoking cessation
  • Learn about nutrition and pick up free recipes
  • Find out how to participate in free exercise activities in the local area

Other event highlights include:

  • Games and children's activities
  • Opportunities to test your health knowledge
  • Live demonstrations and entertainment
  • Local support groups and information
  • Prize drawings

Golf, Grilling & Guys’ Health
9 a.m. to 11 a.m., Saturday, June 14
At AL!VE, 800 W. Lawrence Ave., Charlotte

Booths include:
• Chair massages
• Golf swing analysis
• Balance screening
• Body composition
• Blood pressure checks
• Weight Watchers for men

Activities include: Physician presentation focusing on the various screenings and health issues men face at the different stages in their life. The half-hour session includes time for questions and answers.

Family Health and Fitness Day

HGB and MOVE, the fitness center at AL!VE, celebrate National Family Health and Fitness Day with a free event and activities for the whole family. Family Health and Fitness Day is the perfect way to begin a commitment to a healthier lifestyle.
