live. life. Nspired. 5K Run/Family Walk
Check-in between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 6
Check-in at the ambulance garage on Oliver Street (between Harris and Hall Streets)

This annual HGB 5K run and family walk is inspired by Natalie Freiburger’s 11 years of life lived fully. Join participants from all walks of life for this unique generosity experience. All runners receive a free shirt. (Pre-registered runners are guaranteed a requested size.) Walkers can pre-order a shirt for $5. Additional shirts will also be available for purchase the day of the event.

Course: The 5K run and free family-friendly walk begin on Oliver Street, continue down Cochran Street to Bennett Park and back. (The family walk turns around at Henry Street.) It is fast, flat and USATF-certified. The course closes at 10:25 a.m.

Cash awards for runners: Male and female: First place – $150; second place – $100; Third place – 50; Masters – $50. Top-finishing amateur athletes, as well as the top three finishers in each age group (five-yearbrackets), also receive awards. Results, awards and refreshments are located at the race/walk finish line.

HGB Gala Celebration

The mid-Michigan community is invited to attend Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital’s 2nd Annual Gala Thursday, Sept. 11. The fund-raising event, sponsored by MSU Federal Credit Union, will take place at AL!VE, the hospital’s health park, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The theme for this year’s gala is “under the trees,” inspired by the Richard Mabey quote, “To be without trees would, in the most literal way, to be without our roots.”

HGB’s Development Council has planned an evening full of excitement including a silent auction, 50/50 raffle, unique photo opportunities, heavy hors d’oeuvres provided by Seasonal Grille, a cash bar and music provided by Tunes Are Us. Festive dress is encouraged. Free childcare will be available for those attending the event who pre-register at (517) 541-5803.

The annual HGB HealthFest is a fun-filled, informative and family-friendly event that provides a wealth of health formation, screenings and resources to the community. 

Everyone receives a "passport" at check-in, featuring a map to more than 50 exhibits and activities. There will also be several physicians from HGB on hand for conversation and screenings. Participants will be able to:

  • Check blood pressure and BMI
  • Learn about bone health
  • Check balance and grip strength
  • Learn about menopause or osteoporosis
  • Receive information about annual health physicals
  • Check cholesterol and blood sugar levels
  • Learn about new services for women, including breast health
  • Gain awareness about cancer and its treatments
  • Get information about smoking cessation
  • Learn about nutrition and pick up free recipes
  • Find out how to participate in free exercise activities in the local area
  • Enjoy many activities for families

Golf, Grilling & Guys’ Health
