AL!VE Community Open House offers preview of expansion

The mid-Michigan community will soon have the opportunity to preview the newest features at AL!VE, the experience-based, destination health park that was first opened in Charlotte, Mich., by Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital just one year ago. Leanne Kaiser Carlson, visionary health futurist, will help welcome community members to the event showcasing the facility’s newest spaces and services.

A free Community Open House is scheduled from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 9. Carlson, the cofounder of Kaiser Institute, will speak at 1:30 p.m. She is one of the most influential healthcare speakers and healthcare futurists in the United States. Carlson also spoke at another occasion in 2008, called The Event, which helped introduce the AL!VE concept to local community members. AL!VE is pleased to welcome her back to celebrate the completion of the expansion.

"Leanne’s philosophy is that it’s not enough to simply predict what lies ahead. She believes we must create the future we wish to experience," said Matt Rush, FACHE, HGB president and CEO. "A futurist challenges limitations and creates fresh strategies to achieve new successes, and that is what we have done with AL!VE. The expansion has helped us complete our original vision that was to provide an integrated array of experiences and services to promote well-being and vitality to everyone who comes to AL!VE."

The expansion, which opens Monday, Dec. 10, will add a fitness center, children’s recreation area and more meeting space to the health park, as well as increase the distance of the indoor walking path. Currently AL!VE offers Nourish, a healthy eating café, Journey, a women’s health center, Empower, rehabilitation services, Bridge, a transitional workout space, Relish, a demonstration teaching kitchen, and Soar, a multi-purpose gym.

The public is invited to stop by any time during the open house to learn more about the newest spaces:

  • Move, formerly the HGB Wellness Center, offers state-of-the-art fitness equipment and facilities, including Indulge, the new men's and women's locker rooms featuring dry saunas. A membership opportunity is available at Move, but it is not a requirement to enjoy the fitness area. AL!VE guests can  purchase a day pass to use Move any time. However, new members who join before Dec. 31, will lock in the current membership rate until Jan. 1, 2014. Visit the HGB website for more information.
  • Grow, the children's recreation and development area, is for children ages six months to 12 years. It offers indoor and outdoor play structures, including a multi-story indoor tree house, plus arts, crafts, interactive gaming systems, computers and a designated learning center.
  • Gather is the conference space featuring its own separate entrance, a board room and two additional meeting rooms, plus a relaxing breakout area with a place for catering. These spaces will be available for rent by the public.
  • Explore, the indoor walking path, nearly doubles in size from 1/16 of a mile to 1/9 of a mile.

"We hope everyone who has already visited AL!VE will stop by and bring along someone who has never experienced the health park," said Patrick Sustrich, AL!VE executive director. "New visitors are always pleasantly surprised at how unique AL!VE is and how much it has to offer. We are proud of this well-being place that we built together with the support of our local communities, without using government funds or taxpayer dollars. It is a wonderful example of the generosity of the region."
