AL!VE opens with a “ribbon-tying” ceremony

AL!VE – an experience-based, destination health park in Charlotte, Mich. – officially opened in a symbolic “ribbon- tying” ceremony with Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital and the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce Monday, Nov. 21.

“Instead of a ribbon-cutting ceremony, we chose to do a ribbon-tying ceremony,” said Matt Rush, HGB president and CEO, FACHE. “The joining of two pieces of ribbon represent how the community has come together with HGB to build a place that will make a difference in the lives of so many.”

HGB lead the community effort to build AL!VE as a way to positively impact the health and well-being of thousands of Charlotte and greater Lansing residents.

“I don’t think the business community could be prouder that HGB is bringing a project like AL!VE to Charlotte,” said Bryan Myrkle, president of the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. “The chamber has welcomed many new businesses and projects in 2011, and what better way to wrap up the year than with our community's finest, most ambitious project. AL!VE is going to serve our citizens well and bring new people into the area.”

A phased approach to opening allows the AL!VE team to better prepare the facility for serving the community during the next few weeks.

In its first week of operation AL!VE appointments were scheduled in Journey, the women’s health center, and Empower, the rehabilitation area. AL!VE officially opens its doors to the community Monday, Nov. 28. Visitors will have the opportunity to use Explore, the walking path, reflect in the gathering spaces and courtyards and even attend some of the newly scheduled programs, such as “Breakfast on the go” in Relish, the teaching kitchen, Thursday, Nov. 30.

AL!VE will be fully operational beginning Monday, Dec. 5. The community will be able to taste the delicious, healthy menu of Nourish, the café, attend group activities and events in Soar, the activity gym, and climb Ascend, the rock climbing wall, as well as enjoy a full array of massage, spa and acupuncture services.

Although in Phase I AL!VE will be closed Sundays,  it will be open from  6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Thursday; 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday; and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday. AL!VE may also open outside these hours for special events and activities.

“We want the public to know everyone is welcome to become part of the AL!VE community,” said Patrick Sustrich, MS, HGB vice president of health and wellness services and AL!VE executive director.  “While there are no membership requirements, we do encourage everyone to sign up to receive an AL!VE L!NK so we can personalize and customize experiences whenever you visit.”

Similar to the frequent shopper program in a favorite grocery store, L!NK allows staff to customize each visitor’s experience. For example, if a favorite scent is vanilla and a favorite color is blue, a spa treatment room can be personalized based on that person’s preferences stored on L!NK.

L!NK also allows participants to check out equipment and games, receive the AL!VE quarterly newsletter, and benefit from  exclusive coupons and special mailings.

In conjunction with the opening of Phase I, the Become AL!VE Capital Campaign also kicked off in November. It is anticipated the second phase of development will begin in the spring based on the level of community support and will include the relocated wellness/fitness center, expanded indoor walking trail, a new conference center, additional programming spaces for adults and children, and child care for families using the facility.

Once this future phase is completed, AL!VE will be a more than 60,000-square-foot facility offering an integrated set of health and well-being services, programs and spaces second to none. Providing the community with the resources it needs to improve overall health, AL!VE will serve as an asset that helps facilitate socio-economic growth by creating a more vibrant place to live, work and play.
