Breathe a sigh of relief during free stress and relaxation seminar

Stress!  Nowadays, it’s a daily occurrence for most.  Juggling work, family, schedules, finances and economic factors isn’t easy and in today’s society, many are unsure of how to handle it.  HGB wants to help mid-Michigan breathe a sigh of relief by offering a free, interactive seminar discussing stress and how to incorporate daily relaxation/meditation techniques into busy lifestyles. Offered at the Wellness Center, “Stress and Relaxation: Breathe a Sigh of Relief,” will be held on Tuesday, April 26 from noon - 1 p.m.

Unrelenting stress can cause many health and emotional issues such as muscle tension, headaches, poor decision making, relationship difficulties, a depressed immune system, hormone imbalances and heart/circulation problems. Stress has even been linked to some cancers.  Yet, many of these issues can be avoided by incorporating simple and quick relaxation and meditation exercises into one’s daily routine. 

By making a commitment and scheduling even just five minutes a day, these effective techniques can make a huge difference.  Just like it takes time, exercise, and repetition to build a strong and healthy body, it takes time, practice, and repetition to regain mastery over the mind.  Stress reduction techniques can range from relaxation exercises and guided visualizations to imagining a peaceful place and meditation.  Presented by Joanne Rowe, certified teacher of Pure Meditation Foundation, these common techniques and a simple way to relax the body will be discussed.

For continuing education opportunities to help conquer stress, an additional two-part class taught by the Pure Meditation Foundation will be offered May 10 and 24 from 11:30am – 1pm at the Wellness Center. Advance registration is also required and the cost for both sessions is just $79 for Wellness Center members and $94 for non-members.
