Charlotte Area and Eaton Rapids Area Emergency Medical Services consolidate April 1

The Emergency Medical Services for the Charlotte and Eaton Rapids areas will join to become Eaton Area EMS beginning Sunday, April 1.

The organizations, which have provided advanced life support pre-hospital care and transport in Eaton County since 1977, are consolidating operations to improve services. They will remain stationed at Eaton Rapids Medical Center and Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital, but will work together to coordinate emergency calls, improving coverage and response times.

"The service will continue to cover the same cities and townships, but residents will now see Eaton Area EMS on the side of the ambulances," said John Truba, HGB EMS director. "This will be a positive volution for the local EMS services that help residents get the care they need when they need it."

Eaton Area EMS will continue to operate as a department of HGB. It will unite staff members from the two services; no positions were eliminated because of the consolidation.

Eaton Area EMS will provide emergency and routine transfer services to the residents of the cities of Charlotte, Eaton Rapids and Olivet; and the townships of Aurelius, Bellevue, Brookfield, Carmel, Chester, Eaton, Eaton Rapids, Hamlin, Kalamo, Roxand, Sunfield, Vermontville and Walton. Residents should call 911 for emergency services. For routine transfer, call 517-543-9508.
