Free annual women’s health event features expert physician panel and fashion show

Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital and the General Federation of Women’s Clubs - Charlotte are hosting The Women’s Health Experience from 3:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 5. The free event focuses on breast cancer awareness and takes place at AL!VE in Charlotte, Mich.

The Women’s Health Experience is a free annual event that addresses the five dimensions of health and well-being: do, eat, think, breathe and support. This year’s event will focus on breast health and breast cancer prevention, awareness and treatment in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The event kicks off with an expert physician panel on breast cancer, including prevention, screening and diagnostic studies, what to expect if surgery is needed, and the latest treatment options. The panel will include Troy Ferguson, D.O.; Carol Rapson, M.D.; Seneca Storm, M.D.; and David Rawson, D.O.

"We are thrilled to bring together this group of physicians who can address the entire spectrum of breast health from prevention and screenings, through diagnosis and treatment,” said Maureen Hillary, R.N., HGB Chief Nursing Officer. “They will share a wealth of information that every woman will want to hear."

Additionally there will be interactive booths and short programs that will begin after the panel discussion and repeat every half hour between 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., including yoga, relaxation strategies, cooking demonstrations and support information.

The Women’s Health Experience will close with the fashion show finale emceed by Hillary. The show will feature local models who are breast cancer survivors, as well as local fashions by Bella’s and Bella Grande in Charlotte, Mich. There will be a prize drawing from all those who attended the physician presentation after the fashion show. (Attendees must be present to win.)

The event is planned and coordinated by HGB staff and its Women’s Advisory Committee members, which include community volunteers and business women: Jackie Adams, Katie Dornbos, Laverne Duncan, Jessica Edel, Calley Green, Cathleen Johnson, Fran Rush and Dot Yoder.

Pre-registration is encouraged for all attendees, and it is required for those who wish to use child care. The child care is provided free during the event in GROW, the children’s recreation area at AL!VE. Call (517) 541-5805 for more information or to register.
