HGB CPR and First Aid course offered April 27

The Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital EMS Department and the American Heart Association are offering a CPR and First Aid class from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, April 27, at HGB located at 321 E. Harris St., in Charlotte, Mich.

Cardiovascular disease is the number one cause of death in the United States. Every year more than 480,000 American adults die of a heart attack or its complications.  About half of these deaths result from sudden cardiac arrest, an early complication of some heart attacks that can occur within seconds – even before emergency personnel arrive. Too many times victims die from these complications because bystanders don’t know what to do.

Class participants will learn adult, child, and infant CPR, and how to use the automated external defibrillator, as well as precautions for bloodborne pathogens and emergency steps when sudden illness or injury occurs. A two-year American Heart Association certification card will be issued. This course meets State of Michigan requirements for those who work in childcare and group homes, or who need professional certifications for job requirements.

Class size is limited, so pre-registration is required. Contact Dan Sowles at dsowles@hgbhealth.com or call 517-541-5912 to register or for class and pricing information.
