HGB honors its 2011 Volunteers of the Year

Charlotte, Mich. – Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital is pleased to announce Marjorie Carter as its 2011 Auxiliary Volunteer of the Year and Fern Starr as its 2011 Courtesy Volunteer of the Year. Carter and Starr, both from Charlotte, Mich., were recognized at an annual volunteer appreciation luncheon Wednesday, April 25.

Each year HGB volunteers nominate their peers to receive the annual awards.

Carter was described as a very dedicated, hardworking and professional volunteer. The nominations stated she is an active participant and takes responsibility for coordinating special projects that are highly successful. Carter has been an HGB auxiliary volunteer since 2005 and  is a member of the Auxiliary’s Gift Basket Committee. The Gift Basket is the hospital’s gift shop.

Starr was nominated because she is a great ambassador for HGB. She was described as always being friendly and having a smile on her face, and being polite and respectful. Starr has been an HGB courtesy volunteer since 2003.

HGB has more than 150 active volunteers who donated nearly 18,000 hours of their time in 2011. Courtesy volunteers greet and assist patients and families, and help with clinical and office tasks within each department. Auxiliary volunteers coordinate several events and fund-raisers throughout the year that raise money for the hospital, as well as operate The Gift Basket.

"We are truly honored to have a dedicated, caring group of volunteers at Hayes Green Beach," said Barbara Fulton, director of community and organizational development. "Some have worked at the hospital for many years and they are all an invaluable resource to every department."
