HGB honors its 2012 Volunteers of the Year

Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital is pleased to announce Darrell Ferree as its 2012 Auxiliary Volunteer of the Year and Carroll Tharp as its 2012 Courtesy Volunteer of the Year. Ferree and Tharp, both from Charlotte, Mich., were recognized at an annual Generosity Guild appreciation luncheon Wednesday, May 8.

Each year HGB volunteers nominate their peers to receive the annual awards.

Ferree was described as very helpful, patient and respectful with patients and fellow volunteers. The nominations stated he is representative of HGB’s CARES values: cooperative, accountability, respect, excellence and service. He continually looks for ways to proactively make improvements. Ferree has been both an HGB auxiliary and courtesy volunteer since 2005, and he was nominated in both categories.

Tharp was nominated because he is a great ambassador for HGB. He was described as a caring, sincere person with a great sense of humor. He loves to volunteer and Tharp demonstrates that by always going the extra mile. Tharp has been an HGB courtesy volunteer since 2003.

HGB has more than 150 active volunteers who donated more than 20,000 hours of their time in 2012. Courtesy volunteers greet and assist patients and families, and help with clinical and office tasks within each department. Auxiliary volunteers coordinate several events and fund-raisers throughout the year that raise money for the hospital, as well as operate The Gift Basket, the HGB gift shop.

“Hayes Green Beach is a community partner in health in more ways than one,” said Barbara Fulton, director of community and organizational development. “Our goal is to support the community, but the community also supports our efforts. We are so appreciative of the time and dedication our volunteers commit to the hospital each year. We are very proud to have such an amazing group of individuals willing to share with us their talents and skills.”

HGB has been the community’s choice for health care for 80 years. The hospital is committed to working together in health to provide quality care and enhance the vitality of the community. Learn more about HGB at www.hgbhealth.com.
