Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital is pleased to announce Sharon Catey and Mary Hall as its Generosity Guild Volunteers of the Year. They were recognized at the hospital’s annual Generosity Guild Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon Wednesday, May 8.
Of HGB’s 100 volunteers, HGB Caregivers and Generosity Guild members nominated 10 for the annual recognition. All Generosity Guild volunteers voted on the nominees to determine final winners.
Sharon Catey was honored as the first of the Volunteers of the Year. She often volunteers on the Medical-Surgical floor, as well as in the outpatient surgery area. Sharon was nominated by her fellow Volunteers and the HGB team for having a big heart and anticipating the needs of others, as well as her friendly professionalism and business skills. She is known for going above and beyond for others, including covering volunteer shifts whenever necessary. Sharon also received her five-year pin during the luncheon, and was recognized for serving 721 volunteer hours in 2018.
Mary Hall, an HGB Auxiliary officer, was the second of the 2018 Volunteers of the Year. Mary can often be found working in The Gift Basket, the hospital’s gift shop, as well as on the Medical-Surgical floor. She was recognized by fellow Volunteers and HGB Caregivers for her nearly 48 years of loyal, humble service to the hospital, especially for her generosity, friendliness and compassion. Mary often donates gifts for volunteer recognition events and fund-raisers, and continuously looks out for the best interests of others. And she always has a smile on her face! In addition, Mary received a certificate for 6,000 lifetime volunteer hours.
There are many different types of hospital volunteer opportunities, including those who greet and assist patients and families, and help with clinical and office tasks within each department. Volunteers also help coordinate several events and fund-raisers throughout the year that raise money for the hospital, as well as operate The Gift Basket, the HGB gift shop.
“Our volunteers provide invaluable support at HGB, and are champions for our Caregivers and Patients,” said Dana Pray, director of development and experience. “Sharon and Mary represent the dedication, enthusiasm and allegiance shared by the Volunteers, and we are so proud they have chosen to be a part of our Family.”
The hospital is always recruiting new volunteers to support its efforts in caring for patients, families and the community.
