HGB honors its Volunteers of the Year

2016 HGB Volunteers of the YearHGB is pleased to announce Pauline Borgman as its 2015 Auxiliary Volunteer of the Year and Pat Mishler as its 2015 Courtesy Volunteer of the Year. Borgman and Mishler were recognized at the hospital’s annual Generosity Guild Appreciation Luncheon in April.

Each year HGB volunteers nominate their peers to receive the annual awards.

Borgman was nominated for being a positive role model and “never hesitating to serve others.” Her peers stated she does a terrific job with challenging tasks, and goes above and beyond as a leader and volunteer. Borgman was described as organized and creative, and as the person always looking for a way to make improvements. She has been an HGB volunteer since 2005.

Mishler is someone who always has a smile on her face and loves to make people laugh with her “wonderful sense of humor.” She is friendly, welcoming and goes out of her way for patients and visitors. Her peers nominated her because of her knowledge of the hospital and the respect she has earned among the other volunteers. Mishler has been an HGB volunteer since 1999.

HGB has approximately 140 active volunteers who donated 22,581 hours of time in 2015. Courtesy volunteers greet and assist patients and families, and help with clinical and office tasks within each department. Auxiliary volunteers coordinate several events and fund-raisers throughout the year that raise money for the hospital, as well as operate The Gift Basket, the HGB gift shop.

“HGB is dependant on its volunteers for a variety of roles, and we are continually inspired by the generosity and support shown by our community,” said Barbara Fulton, director of community development. “We are successful in part because of dedicated volunteers like Pauline and Pat, who willingly give of their time and talent."

The hospital is always recruiting new volunteers to support its efforts in caring for patients, families and the community. If you are interested in learning more about HGB volunteer opportunities, please contact Mary Hogan in Community Development at 517-543-1050, ext. 2190.
