It's Community Vitality Week!

PLEASE NOTE: The Living With Arthritis event is at the HGB Trumley Education Center, not the Senior Center. We apologize for the mistake.

Community Vitality Week is designed to help individuals create vitality in their lives and provide the necessary health and wellness information needed to achieve this important goal. Participants will find a broad range of health-related topics being presented throughout the week of February 28. Various topics will include learning healthier eating habits, how to design an effective fitness routine, coping with stress, living with arthritis, and much more.  In addition, a free seven-day trial membership to the hospital’s Wellness Center is being offered during the week, along with free group exercise classes.

The annual HGB HealthFest is this Saturday and will offer free screenings, health information and resources, plus activities for individuals and families.  HealthFest 2011 takes place between 8 and 11:30 am on Saturday, March 5 at Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital.

Everyone will receive a “passport” at check-in, which provides a map to over 50 exhibits and activities, as well as providing helpful information to take home at the end.  As a few examples, participants can get free blood pressure checks, test their blood sugar levels, learn out about bone density, learn about menopause or osteoporosis, check cholesterol, learn about new services for women, visit the “Ask the Dietitian” booth, gain awareness about cancer and its treatment, among many other offerings.  Those who qualify can also receive carotid screenings.

Families will enjoy the exciting tours of the EMS ambulance and the fire truck that will be at the HealthFest entrance.  New this year will be the Smoke House exhibit, offering a popular fire safety education space.  As always, there will be plenty of activities in the special children’s area on the second floor of the hospital.

HGB always collaborates with other organizations for HealthFest, with many community exhibits and activities.  Visitors to the event may browse information from the Barry Eaton District Health Department, American Cancer Society, United Way, the Charlotte Aquatic Center, Can Do!, Charlotte Step by Step, and many others.  There will also be several physicians from HGB on hand for conversation and screenings.

CEO Matt Rush notes, “All of the health screenings at HealthFest are provided at no charge, as a benefit to our local communities.  We are thankful to our HGB volunteers, employees, and physicians, all of whom are volunteering their time on this special day, to help our communities learn ways to lead healthier lives.”

New this year is “Community Vitality Week” which offers daily education opportunities during the week of February 28 through March 4th, leading up to HealthFest on Saturday, March 5th.  Everyone who attends one of the authorized events during Community Vitality Week will earn tickets for a drawing to be held at HealthFest. Schedule of events
