The fifth annual live life. Nspired 5K Run/Family Walk takes place Saturday, Sept. 8 at Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital in Charlotte, Mich.
"This event was initially created to honor a young girl, Natalie Freiburger, who passed away in 2008 from ovarian cancer," said Jake Campbell, BS, HGB Wellness Center coordinator and event director. "It has grown to become an event that inspires people in the spirit of generosity, improving their outlook and health at the same time."
Race registration is $20 per person before Friday, Sept. 7, and $25 on race day. The 1.5-mile family walk is free. Long-sleeve dry-fit shirts are included with all 5K registrations and are also available for walkers to purchase for only $5. Register or order shirts online until 5 p.m., Sept. 7 at www.livelifeinspired.org. All participants can also take advantage of free health screenings including balance and flexibility assessments, body fat percentage, blood pressure and nutritional evaluation.
Check-in and assessments begin at 8 a.m. on race day and the race/walk begins at 9:45 a.m. The 5K run follows the same flat, USATF-certified course in years past. Cash awards are given for first, second and third place winners in the 5K run only.
The event is sponsored by HGB, along with other area businesses. Proceeds from the race go toward the Power of One Fund, a project launched in 2008 by HGB that coordinates contributions from area businesses and individuals, and funds various initiatives that inspire generosity in the community.
Special thanks to event sponsors goes to: Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, Eaton Federal Savings Bank, Sommer Building Corporation, AL!VE, Meijer, Subway, Bryner’s Septic, Besco Water Treatment, Playmakers, Great Harvest Bread Company and Healthy & Fit Magazine. The event is endorsed by the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness Health and Sports.
